2007 May 14, Expelled II

SONORA

Expelled is part of a sound-piece commissioned for visual artist Cynthia Ona Innis, whose exhibition Expelled: A Daydream In Satin is showing this May 2007, at New York City's PS122 Gallery.

Expelled was recorded across borders, in the US and in Mexico, yet the sounds explore not political but other, more abstract borders. There is a vaguely sexual tension as we hear a man giving oblique instruction to a woman as she makes curious sounds with her voice. Plodding and jagged musical elements are set against their opposites - a tea kettle and a cat's purr, suggesting struggle and division.

Geoff Soule is currently living in Portland, Oregon, is a musician and maker of small books, lo-fi websites and other such flotsam and jetsam.
