DNV VIII

On civil rights and democracy

SONORA

Anthony Green has submitted a piece for the Revolutionary Sound call for soundworks. His work, DNV VIII, has been selected to be exhibited within the [FreeQuencies] exhibition.

This is the fifth movement of a work entitled Dona Nobis Veritatem: A Setting of American Text for viola, soprano, and piano. This work sets the Preamble to the Constitution, the Bill of Rights, and a selection of the Declaration of Independence. This particular movement is a setting of the fourth amendment. If one pays close enough attention, he or she will notice many actions that are in direct violation of the protections granted by the fourth amendment. On a grander scale, the Patriot Act, enthusiastically supported by George W. Bush and his cabinet members, is a public slap-in-the-face of the fourth amendment. This act, is a legalized contradiction to the very document that helped shaped this country into a great democracy. It is high time for these words to be shouted in the street in a new revolution reclaiming our basic individual rights: The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects against unreasonable searches and seizures shall NOT BE VIOLATED!
