I cannot speak Italian is a radio work of twelve minutes duration by Mark Schreiber for Radio Epode, curated by Tobi Maier, at Manifesta7. A sound play in three parts (typical of Erik Satie and John Cage). Italian and German postmen ring an apartment doorbell delivering the wrong post. The resident cannot understand them and communication noise is suggested via language course extracts. Both languages are spoken in the Trentino area of Italy. In-between, imaginary building sounds are heard in each room and ‘mixed’ when opening and closing doors.
