   ASCOLTA INVIA

20 - 22 APRILE 2017

Fourteen Jack has been shortlisted in the context of the Süden Radio open call for soundworks.

Fourteen Jack is made using found audio materials which were produced or released by Armenians living abroad. Armenia has one of the largest diaspora’s in the world, spread across various continents. I choose to work with a selection of tracks from the 70’s and 80’s made by Armenian diaspora producers. All of these tracks share a certain sense of nostalgia as well as use certain elements of traditional Armenian music. I expose their sounds and structures which create this Armenian feeling to noises and glitchy textures reconstructing them into an altered narrative.

Andrius Arutiunian is Armenian-Lithuanian composer and sound artist based in The Hague. One of the main focuses of his artistic practice is the digital domain and the influence of contemporary audio-visual culture on the perception of reality. The socio-historical context of technology often provides the basis for his music, with particular focus on communication and military technology.
Andrius Arutiunian obtained his BA and MA degrees at the Royal Conservatory The Hague under Yannis Kyriakides and Peter Adriaansz. He is a guest tutor at the Master Artistic Research department (KABK) where he gives lectures on contemporary music and composition practices. He also works actively as a researcher and lecturer (Sedje Hémon Stichting, Dag in de Branding festival). In addition to collaborating with various international ensembles (MAZE, Ensemble Klang, Slagwerk Den Haag, Synaesthesis and others), he also performs his own solo electronic and audio-visual sets.
